Live Business Video Interviews on #Blab in April 2016 . [Updated]

Share

Introducing another great series of Blab interviews with a group of people I know well and respect.

Many I have been connected to over the last ten years , several I have met , all are friends

Topics .. real world practical advice from people at the top of their game

Blabbing for Britain \ DontStreamandDrive \Taking Care of your Inbox \ The Participant Principle \ Thryyve Social Media Engagement Show \ Wiltshire Business Club \ Promoting your Blog Posts \Content Curation \New Software Launch

Blabbing for Britain with Jon reaches show 21 . Join us for video chat in a relaxed atmosphere 7th April 10:00 AM

We discuss everything under the sun and are joined by people from around the globe

Blab is about getting involved , networking , chatting with people from around the globe.

Blab is ideal for interviews , group discussions , tuition and promoting your cause

When we started our aim was to explore Blab ourselves , to promote a site we both enjoy using and encourage people to join us on camera .

We are succeeding

Over the weeks we have made many new friends around the globe and met up on video with people we have known online for years but never spoken to directly.

Blab is more than a video chat site , there is a real sense of community.

#DontStreamAndDrive 8th April 10:00 AM

DontStreamAndDriveDaytclap

SgtTCS says

‘2016 is reportedly the year of livestreaming video. The rise in the number of platforms that facilitate this service has seen a rapid increase in live video.

Driving is a complex operation and needs your full concentration all the time. Livestreaming video has spread into the world of driving. Motorists are livestreaming video as they drive, interacting with comments and essentially taking their focus from where it should be.

The consequences can be fatal. #DontStreamAndDrive day has been set up to encourage the livestream community to pledge to never stream and drive, to encourage others not to and to never watch a broadcast where the host is driving.

Please support me on April 8th.’ You can help by clicking here THUNDERCLAP

Jon and I will be Blabbing for the cause on Friday

Handling Presentation Nerves with Simon Raybould 12th April 7:00 PM

Simon and I have been good friends for over 10 years and he is the author of ‘Presentation Genius’

In our last Blab we covered presenting in general , this time Simon is focusing on ‘Handling Presentation Nerves’ which is something the majority of presenters feel before (and possibly during) a LIVE presentation .

We hope to have as much fun on this Blab as we did the previous one
.
Simon says

‘I started life as a research scientist: I looked at the causes of childhood leukaemia. After 24 years as a researcher I gradually became more interested in how science is communicated (or not) because what people act on is very different from what researchers *know*. Then I got more and more into understanding how *anything* was communicated, not just science. I’ve also worked as a lighting designer for dance companies, written a few books and plays, been a teacher, been a fire-eater and other things I’ve forgotten….. :)’

‘Take Control of Your Inbox’ … ‘Manage Your Email More Effectively’ April 18 5:00 PM

Clare Evans (author of Time Management for Dummies) and I will be exploring the above topic and welcome your questions.

Are you constantly checking your inbox for new messages throughout the day?

Are you tempted to go and read new email when you hear that alert go?

Emails can be a great time waster and provide a constant distraction throughout the day. If you’re going to make the most of your day then one way to increase your productivity is to limit the amount of time you spend on emails and use the time that you do more effectively.

THE PARTICIPANT PRINCIPLE: with Maya Middlemiss 19th April 2:00PM

A guide to getting the best recruitment for your user testing and qualitative research

Maya says :

‘We’ve been recruiting research participants for so long, it was time we wrote the book.

Published in Spring 2016, The Participant Principle: A guide to getting the best recruitment for your user testing and qualitative research by Maya Middlemiss distills the experience and expertise of recruiting well over 25,000 participants for projects all over the UK – ranging from focus groups to eye tracking, food tasting to family ethnography, and everything in between.;

Cendrine and Steven chat with Martin W Smith about Content Curation April 26th 8:00 PM

After our amazing chat with Kelly Hungerford in March , Cendrine and I are now looking forward to chatting with Martin W Smith.

WHAT BENEFITS HAS CURATION BROUGHT YOU?

Beyond the numbers, content curation creates connection and learning. I’ve learned more from Ana Cristina Pratas, Brian Yanish, Jan Gordon, Cendrine, Kelly Hungerford, Karen Dietz, Malek and others than attending expensive conferences, reading preaching white papers or listening to self-serving podcasts.

Being a member of the “curator community” is one of the biggest perks.

Curation is more of a journey than a destination for me. I read something every day I want to STOP THE WORLD and share (lol). I’m honestly all in all the time and that stance is important and why my tribe grows.

Conversation with Michael Szerencsy 27th April 2016 5:00 PM

I cannot say too much at this stage as Michael prepares for the launch of the software , however I will say I have used the Alpha version whilst watching the T20 cricket .. and it rocks !!

Blogging : How To Define Your Target Blog Audience

Share

“If you build it, they will come.” That line may have worked for Kevin Costner’s character in Field of Dreams, but such advice may prove disastrous for you if you’re serious about starting a successful blog to stand the test of time.

My Own Blog Journey

In 1995 I founded one of the very first hair and beauty sites on the Web. It eventually transitioned to HairBoutique.com, which is still alive and well as we approach 2016.

Hairboutique.com intially consisted of articles, product reviews, advice columns and forums. In 2002 I created my first blog, which currently contains over 5,000 active topics.

One of the most challenging aspects of running HairBoutique.com and the HB Blog has been clearly understanding the target audience.

Not only has it been an ongoing task, our audience is constantly changing due to a variety of factors.

Why Are You Writing A Blog?

If you’re writing a blog just to have fun, exercise your writing muscles, or as a creative outlet, it probably doesn’t matter if you know who to write for.

However, if you’re trying to build traffic to a blog, or sell products or services, successfully defining your target blog audience will be the difference between success and failure.

Defining Your Target Audience Is The Cornerstoe Of Any Marketing Campaign

Without a well-defined target audience the most fascinating topics or well written content will be completely wasted.

Defining your target audience is the cornerstone of any marketing campaign you develop or launch.

Steps To Define Your Target Audience

How do you definine your target audience? Ask yourself the following four key questions:

1. Who is your target blog reader? Are they male, or female, or both? What is their age range, marital status, educational background, careers and likely political beliefs? Achieving a crystal clear definition of the demographics of your target audience will go a very long way towards helping you to craft custom content to blog about with consistently successful results.

2. What is your target audience’s current pain? In the case of HairBoutique.com the biggest pain for our visitors is problem hair. There are many subcategories of problem hair which can be further defined and categorized. This is the case with most target audiences. With some careful analysis you can find very clear niches to exploit.

3. Where is my target audience hanging out on Social Media? Are they on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Instagram, Pinterest or a combination? Since all of the various Social Media platforms have a different appeal, not all people will hang out on all of the platforms. Some may not hang out on Social Mediak depending upon their age or interests.

Facebook has 1 billion users. As a result, it’s a great resource to start looking for your target blog audience. Facebook fans tend to be willing to read longer content than Twitter fanatics. Historically Twitter fans have been proven to have a much shorter attention span.

4. How can you help your target audience? This is a key question to ask when designing your Call To Actions (CTAs) in your blogs. Do you want your blog visitors to visit your site, purchase recommended products or share your content across all the Social Media platforms? What goals are you trying to accomplish with your blogs?

Attract A Blog Audience Who Stays

If you’re not able to provide helpful information to your audience, you may initially be able to attract them, but they won’t stay or ever return.

One of the questions I always ask myself before writing a new blog is what’s happening in the news related to hair and beauty. Once I find out the latest news I ask myself, who would really care about that? Is there new or interesting information I could share with my blog visitors related to hot news items? Would that information help them solve a problem or ease some pain they are experiencing?

Depending upon the answers, I may or may not have discovered new content to develop.

Summary – How To Define Your Target Blog Audience

One of the biggest challenges in learning how to define your target blog audience is to remember you can’t appeal to all of the people all of the time.

Even if you build it, no matter how cool it is, if you didn’t first define your target audience, no one will show up.

Interview with Barbara Saul about web design , online marketing and WordPress

Share

I interviewed Babs Saul via text as my sound failed in the first five minutes
.
Barbara took control though and in an interesting 30 minute talk gave insights into WordPress, themes , plugins , blogging , collaborative blogs and her plans for the future
We are grateful to Simon Raybould who hopped in to ask questions live and to Lynn Tulip who asked questions tooe

Barbara and I have known each other for over 10 years , in her role as BlogMistress she hosts websites for Angelika and me and many of our friends , She is always there to lend a helping hand when we manage to break the sites , resolving problems without fuss and showing endless patience .

We will be discussing web design , online marketing and of course WordPress .

Wednesday 27Th January 10:00 AM GMT

About Barbara

In a nutshell: having worked my way through from office junior when I left school at 16 (computers were rare and huge then – we used manual typewriters and log tables!) to management accounting, regional management for a security firm into a great role in the food ingredients industry, then up to London and computer support for some great blue chips, and finally settling in Kent to build my own business and focus on the Internet.

Now I’ve brought together my century-spanning (ok, so that’s just a lucky timing thing, but does add up to well over 15 years) experience of the web together with commercial experience, and focus on Internet marketing strategy – both enabling others to do their own and doing it for them with the team.

The rest of the time, I run the Blogmistress which offers every kind of WordPress help you might want.

Software Challenge – The Problem and the Idea

Share

Ideally software should be designed and written to solve a real world problem , far too often we see new software launched and puzzle at it’s usefulness .

The problem should come before the idea , that way you have already discovered your target market .

If you solution takes away the pain at an equitable price then you can starting designing

Before you do though ask around , find out how commonplace the problem is , this helps you define the size of the potential market.

Over the next few weeks I am developing a solution to a real world problem , you can follow me as the new software evolves

I am looking for alpha testers , constructive suggestions and help .

The problem .

You have written the most amazing blog post ever and you want to promote .

You have an awesome back catalog of old blog posts which are timeless and want promoting.

You want to promote your Blabs , your meetings and your seminars

Next you do not want to restrict promotion to your own works , you want to include friends blogs and activities , both to help them and vary the output on your own channels.

You want also to add interesting posts found while surfing.

Finally you want to set it up quickly and maintain it easily and you want your friends to do the same .

The idea

To create a powerful easy to use Promotion system that can do everything outlined in the problem.

It will export all your WordPress blogs from your websites and import them into the program . you decide which ones to promote, adding hashtags to titles without affecting your blog posts/

The system will then take care of all the promotion.

How can you get involved (and earn a free copy) ?

Please tweet this blog post and I will get in touch.
